Toronto (January 26, 2023) – ORION recently partnered with CANARIE to invest in upgrades to our network for greater reliability, increased capacity, and better security. These upgrades help support the evolving needs of researchers, educators, and innovators in Ontario.
ORION completed upgrades to nine Point of Presence (PoP) locations: Barrie, Guelph, Kingston, Newmarket, Sarnia, Sault Saint Marie, Sudbury, Thunder Bay, and Windsor. The new equipment improves reliability, enables network growth, and supports new capabilities including network automation.
The upgrades strengthen ORION’s ability to provide reliable connections for the community. They also offer new opportunities for faster bandwidth connections to the National Research and Education Network (NREN). Faster connection speeds allow our constituents to move large quantities of data across the NREN safely and with the reliability that they have come to expect.
ORION is committed to improving the stability, reliability, and availability of the network to better support our community for years to come. We will continue to deliver critical connectivity, enabling researchers and innovators to accelerate new discoveries.
